Billions in deferred taxes and a rising risk of bankruptcy—which is why ID06’s control system plays a crucial role

Uncertainty continues to prevail in the Swedish business market, even though some sectors are beginning to show signs of improvement. Today, Swedish companies still have deferred tax payments totaling 12.2 billion kronor. Behind these figures lies a troubling reality: 271 million kronor has already been lost as companies granted deferrals have gone bankrupt. This shows how quickly temporary debts can turn into permanent losses for the government.

Larger companies remain vulnerable

According to a Dun & Bradstreet article, “Billions in Tax Deferrals Could Drive Up Bankruptcies Among Swedish Companies,” the risk of bankruptcy is not over yet—on the contrary, it may increase over the coming year, especially among larger companies that still have outstanding tax deferrals or have already received payment defaults. Payment defaults, in particular, tend to be an early warning sign that insolvency is approaching. While the construction industry has begun to stabilize, the risk level remains high for companies with large tax debts.

The Role of ID06 – Order, Transparency, and Preventive Oversight

In uncertain times, clear monitoring systems become especially important—and this is where the ID06 system plays a crucial role. By proactively monitoring companies’ finances and taking action when debt begins to grow, ID06 helps prevent problems from escalating.

ID06 has implemented clear procedures for handling overdue debts—that is, debts that have been referred to the Swedish Enforcement Authority because they were not paid on time. The aim is to prevent further indebtedness, combat systematic fraud and tax evasion, and protect companies that operate responsibly and contribute to the public good.

– This isn’t about arbitrary suspensions. ID06 operates in accordance with the rule of law, through dialogue, advance warning, and the opportunity to rectify violations. Our goal is to help businesses—not to undermine them. We don’t want to make it harder for legitimate businesses to do the right thing; instead, we want to target those who systematically violate the regulations. Companies that settle their debts or can provide proof of a valid payment plan can, of course, continue to operate, says Thor Jonsson, Head of Product and Marketing at ID06.

That is why ID06’s work is more important than ever

When large amounts of deferred taxes remain unpaid and the risk of bankruptcy is heightened, ID06’s checks serve an important purpose. They help reduce the risk of both financial losses and unscrupulous operators—while ensuring fairer competitive conditions for companies that manage their finances responsibly.

In times of economic uncertainty, preventive measures are crucial. ID06’s control system is part of a comprehensive approach that enhances transparency, mitigates risks, and creates a more stable environment for Swedish companies moving forward.
