Effective January 28, 2026, new security requirements will be introduced for ordering ID06 cards. Under the new rules, all individuals—regardless of citizenship—who approve the order of their ID06 card must identify themselves with a valid passport or national ID card that is accepted as a travel document within the EU/EEA.
During the approval process, the cardholder’s documents must be scanned via a mobile app or at one of ID06’s scanning partners in order to verify the authenticity of the documents as well as the person’s citizenship and identity. Individuals from third countries (outside the EU/EEA) will also need to scan their EU residence permit card in the same way as they do today.
This means we can now begin preparing for the transition to the stricter identification requirements—an important step in our efforts to enhance security and trust within the ID06 system.
